Detectives in Arizona are leaving no stone unturned—or in this case, no manhole cover unopened—as the search for missing 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie intensifies. Investigators from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department were seen opening a septic tank in Guthrie’s backyard, with drones capturing the scene from above.
According to reports Sunday from The New York Post, the operation is part of an ongoing investigation that now spans multiple locations. The Sheriff’s Department confirmed the effort in a post on X, stating, “The Nancy Guthrie investigation is ongoing. Follow-up continues at multiple locations. No suspects, persons of interest, or vehicles have been identified.”
Officials also made it clear they are keeping things tightly controlled. “No scheduled press briefings. If any significant developments occur in the case, a press conference will be called,” the department said. In other words, they’re working first and talking later—a refreshing concept these days.
The renewed activity at Nancy’s home comes just hours after her children, including “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, went public with a desperate plea. Savannah and her siblings announced on social media that they are willing to pay the ransom demanded in exchange for their mother’s safe return.
The New York Post reported that the ransom demand totals $6 million and is requested in Bitcoin. Savannah Guthrie shared an emotional message, saying, “We beg you now to return our mother to us, so that we can celebrate with her.”
As authorities continue their methodical search and the family pleads for answers, the focus remains on finding Nancy Guthrie and bringing her home safely. The investigation is active, the pressure is on, and hope remains very much alive that this case will end with good news and a long-overdue reunion.
