Sen. Ron Johnson Says Democrats Block SAVE America Act Because They ‘Want to Cheat’ in Elections

WASHINGTON — Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) didn’t sugarcoat it on Newsmax Thursday: Democrats are blocking the SAVE America Act because, in his words, they “want to cheat” in U.S. elections. Subtle? No. Clear? Absolutely.

Appearing on Wake Up America, Johnson said the battle over election integrity comes down to one basic idea — protecting legitimate votes from being diluted by fraud. As Donald Trump stated during his State of the Union, Democrats oppose the bill because they benefit from weak safeguards. Funny how election “confidence” only matters when their side wins.

Johnson explained that opposition to the SAVE America Act fits into a broader pattern. He said Democrats, through their NGOs, encouraged millions of people to enter the country illegally, sent them to sanctuary cities and states, and boosted census numbers — which then leads to more seats in Congress. Nothing to see here, folks, just a convenient reshuffling of political power.

He also pointed to the massive expansion of mail-in and absentee voting during COVID, citing findings from the Baker Commission that absentee balloting has the greatest potential for fraud in U.S. elections. According to Johnson, Democrats didn’t fix that problem — they doubled it. Brilliant strategy, if your goal is chaos.

“They push mail-in balloting, they push automatic registration,” Johnson said. “Again, Democrats want to make it easy to cheat.” He contrasted that with what he described as overwhelming public support for commonsense protections like voter ID.

Johnson noted that about 80 percent of Americans support voter ID because they don’t want their legitimate vote canceled out by a fraudulent one. Yet Democrats oppose nearly every election security measure, including the SAVE America Act. Apparently, asking for proof of citizenship is now considered controversial — welcome to modern politics.

On the issue of the ongoing Department of Homeland Security shutdown, Johnson said negotiations between the White House and Senate Democrats don’t appear productive, since Democrats are refusing to fund DHS. He added that the last shutdown was driven by Democrats and highlighted that all 53 Republican senators supported the Shutdown Fairness Act to ensure essential and furloughed workers were paid — twice. Unity from Republicans, resistance from Democrats. Shocking, right?

At the end of the day, Johnson’s message was simple: election integrity isn’t extreme, and protecting legal votes shouldn’t be partisan. With Republicans pushing the SAVE America Act and standing firm on voter confidence, the fight for fair elections is far from over — and that’s good news for Americans who still believe every lawful vote should count.
