A man identified as Dennis Arguello-Acosta is now in custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement following allegations that he was involved in a fatal hit-and-run that killed a Texas sheriff’s deputy.
The victim, Kenneth Lewis, served in Fort Bend County. Authorities say the incident occurred on February 21, when Lewis had stopped to assist motorists involved in a minor crash. While in uniform and helping at the scene, he was struck by a vehicle that allegedly fled afterward. He later died from his injuries at a nearby hospital.
Federal investigators, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, worked alongside local law enforcement to identify and locate the suspect. ICE agents took Arguello-Acosta into custody on March 14.
Officials from the Department of Homeland Security stated that the arrest was intended to ensure the suspect remains detained as the case proceeds.
The incident has drawn attention to ongoing national debates over immigration enforcement and public safety, particularly in cases involving serious crimes. Authorities have not yet publicly detailed all charges, and the case is expected to move through the legal system as investigations continue.
