SWALWELL’S HOUSE OF CARDS: FBI Raids Beverly Hills Mansion as Disgraced Ex-Lawmaker’s Scandals Collapse Inward

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — If there is an award for accumulating the most spectacular pile of political wreckage in modern Washington history, former Representative Eric Swalwell is making a very strong case for the gold medal.

Federal authorities descended on a multi-million-dollar Beverly Hills mansion on Tuesday morning, executing a high-stakes search warrant connected to an ongoing federal investigation into the disgraced California Democrat. It’s just the latest stop on a very uncomfortable tour for Swalwell, following an August raid on his Washington, D.C., home and the seizure of his electronic devices by federal agents at San Francisco International Airport.

Naturally, because accountability is a foreign concept to the D.C. swamp, Swalwell was not arrested or detained during Tuesday's raid. But the walls are closing in fast on a man whose career has long been a masterclass in questionable judgment.

As readers with a memory longer than a goldfish will recall, Swalwell’s chaotic exit from Capitol Hill earlier this year came after at least five women—including a former congressional staffer—came forward with severe allegations of sexual misconduct and assault. But as if facing mounting criminal and civil exposure wasn't enough, the hits just keep coming from his glittering past relationships.

Just days ago, newly declassified FBI records released by the White House's Government Transparency Task Force blew the lid back off Swalwell’s cozy historical ties to Christine "Fang Fang" Fang, a suspected Chinese intelligence operative connected to Beijing's Ministry of State Security. According to the declassified files, Swalwell admitted to federal agents way back in 2015 that he had engaged in "physical relations" with the Chinese spy on a handful of occasions before her abrupt departure from the country.

And somehow, the congressional establishment let this guy sit on the House Intelligence Committee for years while he was sharing pillow talk with a literal foreign operative. Funny how national security oversight works when the left is running the show.

By April, facing the very real prospect of expulsion from the House after 13 years of embarrassing headlines, Swalwell finally resigned and slinked away from his aborted California gubernatorial ambitions, vowing to "fight the serious false allegations" while admitting he had to take responsibility for "the mistakes I did make."

Now, with FBI agents carting evidence out of Beverly Hills mansions and his long-concealed ties to Chinese espionage out in the open, Swalwell’s political house of cards has officially collapsed. And honestly? Nobody should be surprised.
