Ted Cruz Predicts the End of the Schumer Shutdown — and Exposes Why Democrats Let It Drag On

Leave it to Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) to cut through the noise and call it like it is. As the Schumer Shutdown drags into its second month — hurting federal workers, SNAP recipients, and the overall economy — Cruz has a clear, level-headed prediction on when it ends and why Democrats have been keeping the government closed in the first place.

Appearing on Fox News with Maria Bartiromo, Cruz said he expects the government to reopen Wednesday or Thursday of this week. Why then? Because Democrats are waiting for Election Day to pass. In classic political fashion, they’re holding the country hostage to wring every last drop of electoral advantage from the chaos they created.

“The Democrats will wait until after Election Day because they think a shutdown is good for energizing the crazies in their party,” Cruz explained. “But I think it will either be late this week or early next week.”

That’s exactly the kind of political cynicism we’ve come to expect from the left — keep the government closed, blame Republicans, and hope the media runs cover long enough to fool the public. Except this time, it isn’t working.

Cruz is right: Democrats have been using this shutdown as a campaign prop. They want to rally their base by pretending to “fight for the people,” when in reality, they’re fighting to protect their own power. It’s a page straight out of their playbook — weaponize crisis, posture as heroes, and then quietly slip away when the polls start turning against them.

And guess what? The polls are turning. Republican approval ratings have ticked upward since the shutdown began. Even the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) — the nation’s largest federal employee union — has publicly called for a “clean CR” (continuing resolution) to reopen the government. When even the unions are done playing along, you know the Democrats have overplayed their hand.

Cruz also pointed out that the left’s strategy could backfire spectacularly, especially in Virginia, home to tens of thousands of federal workers directly impacted by the shutdown. Democrats may think they’re firing up their base, but angry workers missing paychecks might soon realize who’s really to blame — and it’s not the Republicans who’ve voted multiple times to reopen the government.

What’s happening here says everything about today’s Democratic Party. Their priorities aren’t about governing, feeding families, or keeping airports running safely. They’re about winning elections and preserving control, even if it means punishing the very people they claim to represent.

At the end of the day, Cruz’s prediction makes sense — Democrats will reopen the government the moment it no longer serves their political purposes. Because for Chuck Schumer and his party, this was never about policy or principle. It was always about power.

So yes, expect the government to reopen soon — not because Democrats suddenly found their conscience, but because their polling numbers finally told them to. ??
