My wife, in her line of work, has had more reason to go to downtown Los Angeles than I have in recent years, and she has recounted to me the dystopian nightmare that is occurring there. I finally said, “Well, all right, let’s go down there and see for ourselves,” and what I discovered was that Skid Row was not a “row” at all—it was a mind-blowing expanse of misery and decadence that goes on block after block, street after street, seemingly forever.
Unfortunately, my video isn’t good enough for prime time, but many others have documented the unfathomable squalor:
Even though I’ve been living in SoCal for over thirty years and am well familiar with its decline, my visit there it was still a shocking scene.
As Golden State Governor Gavin Newsom waxes poetic about Democracy, and LA Mayor Karen Bass prattles on about how they don’t need the federal government interfering in Tinseltown’s affairs because they’ve got everything under control, voters should remind them every day and twice on Sunday of the reality of their progressive politics: failed cities, broken lives, and the death of the American dream.
Detroit’s got nothing on DTLA:
Downtown in the City of Angels is looking more and more like a ghost town.
The famed Los Angeles neighborhood has become a shadow of its former glory — with rows of boarded up shops, chain stores leaving in droves and hoards of drug-using vagrants sparking major safety concerns for shoppers and business owners alike.
The Post can reveal that there are more than 100 vacant storefronts in the area’s Historic Core, which was the rip-roaring heart of the downtown shopping and entertainment district.
This is what he and his ilk have brought us:
The area’s Art Deco buildings and lavish theater marquees are still there, but they now overlook busted windows, boarded-up storefronts, and throngs of homeless people smoking drugs from glass pipes in broad daylight.
Around one-third of commercial spaces sits empty, according to research firm Avison Young — a higher vacancy rate than Detroit.
Even the most stalwart businesses are being driven out by crime, record-high rents and an ever-shrinking pool of Angelenos with any reason to be downtown, according to business owners.
I have been covering the downfall of Los Angeles relentlessly—its descent into a drug den of iniquity, homelessness, crime, and bureaucratic nightmares. Many think I do so because I hate the city, but the opposite is true—it is one of the most dynamic burgs in the world, with entertainment, neighborhoods, cuisine, and natural beauty enough to rival the top destinations anywhere on the planet. It’s not Los Angeles that I deplore, it’s the corrupt, destructive Democrat politicians who are intent on destroying one of the nation’s treasures that I despise. They’ve already brought the formerly epic city of San Francisco to its knees—it’s now known more for punchlines and sad tributes than it is for its wonderful history and well-known song lyrics.
As we’ve reported, Gavin Newsom is on the warpath against everything that Trump is bringing to our country and the re-imagining of the American dream in the 21st century. He has indeed called the battle cry, but not for decency, democracy, or the well-being of his residents—he’s in fight mode because he wants one thing: more power.
He and his party seem hell-bent on taking down Los Angeles with them in their descent into anarchy and misery. Although many claim California voters get what they deserve, they neglect to note that there is a huge Republican presence here, but the state is so rigged in Democrats’ favor that we’ve been drowned out. Count California out at your own peril—what’s happening here is a virus that easily spreads.
In the words of Donald Trump, “Fight! Fight! Fight!” Newsom must be stopped and must never achieve national office. The outcome—observable by his almost unbelievable failures—is there for all to see.
