Trump Administration Negotiates Most Favored Nations Deal to Drastically Reduce IVF Drug Prices

President Donald Trump is once again putting American families first — this time by tackling one of the biggest cost barriers facing couples struggling with fertility. The Trump administration has struck a groundbreaking deal with EMD Serono, one of the leading fertility drug manufacturers in the world, to slash the cost of IVF medications that have long been out of reach for middle-class Americans.

Under the agreement, EMD Serono will sell its flagship fertility medication Gonal-f at a massive discount through the upcoming TrumpRx.gov platform. The deal ensures that women purchasing through the new program — particularly those in low- or middle-income brackets — will receive additional discounts totaling up to 2,320% off the standard price. For those wondering, that’s not a typo — it’s one of the most aggressive price reductions ever negotiated in the fertility drug market.

According to EMD Serono’s official statement, the company will also offer direct-to-consumer sales of its full IVF portfolio — including Gonal-f®, Ovidrel®, and Cetrotide® — at significantly reduced prices. When used together in a standard IVF cycle, patients can expect to pay 84% less than current list prices. For thousands of American families dreaming of having children, this move is nothing short of life-changing.

At a White House press conference announcing the deal, Trump was joined by EMD Serono Vice President Libby Horne, Senator Katie Britt (R-AL), and Representative Richard Hudson (R-NC). Trump explained that this historic price cut was made possible through his Most Favored Nation executive order, ensuring that Americans no longer pay many times what other nations pay for the same medications.

“One of the most popular fertility drug regimens costs over $5,000 per cycle,” Trump said. “Largely as a result of these unsustainable prices, 70 percent of employers do not offer insurance that covers IVF. Most couples are paying entirely out of pocket — and that’s not something most families can do.”

The administration estimates that the deal will save patients an average of $2,200 per IVF cycle, according to data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Competing for Lower Costs

The administration isn’t stopping there. Trump also announced that the FDA will fast-track approval for Pergoveris, another EMD Serono medication currently sold in Europe. Once approved, it will compete directly with a more expensive drug that currently holds a monopoly in the U.S. market.

Pergoveris combines recombinant human follicle stimulating hormone (r-hFSH) and recombinant human luteinizing hormone (r-hLH), using the same Redi-ject® pen technology as Gonal-f, allowing for fewer injections, fewer copays, and lower costs overall. Simply put, it’s innovation that saves money — something the Trump administration has made a hallmark of its health care reforms.

Trump confirmed that EMD Serono has agreed to apply Most Favored Nation pricing to all future drugs it develops and sells in the U.S. That means this is not just a one-off deal — it’s a precedent that will pressure Big Pharma to stop price-gouging American families.

Expanding Insurance Options

In addition to lowering drug costs, Trump announced that his administration will allow insurers to offer specialized fertility coverage plans, similar to dental or vision insurance. Americans will soon be able to opt in to these affordable supplemental plans, giving couples more control and flexibility over their reproductive health options — without government overreach or taxpayer-funded handouts.

This announcement follows Trump’s earlier success in negotiating similar price cuts with Pfizer, reducing the cost of key medications under Medicaid programs. Once again, the president is proving that tough negotiation and pro-American policy can deliver real results.

For years, Democrats have promised affordable health care but delivered only bureaucracy and higher costs. President Trump, by contrast, is delivering tangible savings and real hope to families. With this new Most Favored Nations IVF deal, more Americans will have a chance to build families without going broke — a victory for life, freedom, and common sense.
