Trump Administration Takes Hard Stance: Billions More Withheld From California Medicaid Amid Rampant Fraud, Whistleblower Program Launched

The Trump administration continues its relentless crackdown on waste, fraud, and abuse, announcing yet another significant deferral of Medicaid funding from California. Medicare and Medicaid Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz declared from the Oval Office on Tuesday that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is withholding an additional $1.2 billion from California's Medicaid program, citing widespread concerns over fraud within the state's healthcare system.

This latest move brings the federal government's total withheld Medicaid payments from the Golden State to a staggering $3.3 billion. Dr. Oz highlighted the undeniable red flags, pointing specifically to California's personal care services program, which has ballooned by an astounding 24 percent in just three years—a rate twice the national average. "Impossible for us to understand how that could be so," Oz stated, underscoring the glaring anomaly that demands federal intervention.

President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and independent journalist Nick Shirley joined Dr. Oz for the pivotal White House event. The administration openly credited Shirley for his crucial work in exposing healthcare fraud, a role that propelled him into the national spotlight as a vital independent government watchdog.

"I just was concerned about the well-being of our tax dollars," Shirley bravely explained during the event. He starkly contrasted the administration's appreciation with the hostility he faced previously: "There's never been an incentive for anyone to ever expose fraud. In fact, when I expose fraud, instead of the mainstream media investigating the fraud, they investigated me, and people actually, in fact, wanted to kill me after I exposed the fraud."

Shirley, whose prior videos illuminated alleged fraud in Minnesota's daycare programs and subsequently in New York and California, has become a symbol of citizen accountability.

The deferment specifically targets California's Medicaid payments for personal care services, an area ripe for exploitation. Oz offered a vivid example: "Just that one little area where you're paying someone to carry groceries upstairs for your mom, which many of you would carry groceries upstairs for your mom for free, I would think, but in California, they'll pay you a lot of money for it, and it's actually run by the counties." This stark reality exposes how taxpayer money is being squandered in the state.

In a powerful demonstration of the America First commitment to safeguarding taxpayer dollars, President Trump and Vice President Vance seized the moment to unveil a new $25 million Fraud Whistleblower Incentive Program (WHIP). This groundbreaking initiative is designed to reward patriotic Americans who provide tips leading to successful fraud convictions or significant federal enforcement actions, offering them 1 percent of the amount of fraud uncovered.

"For the first time ever, there'll be an incentive for people to actually go out and make that change inside their own community," Shirley declared, expressing hope that "millions of people are empowered inside of the United States to go out and actually make a change inside your own community, and you'll actually be rewarded for saving America money." The Justice Department will oversee WHIP, with tips accessible via fraud.gov.

This latest action builds on previous strong steps. HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had already announced on July 21 that CMS was withholding more than $867 million in Medicaid payments to California. "Every dollar the federal government allows to be lost to fraud, waste, and abuse is a dollar stolen from American patients and the American taxpayer," Kennedy stated at the time, adding, "That's money that should be going to legitimate healthcare." In May, Vice President Vance had also announced a $1.3 billion deferral from California's Medicaid payments due to suspicious billing patterns, emphasizing, "We want to protect these programs for the kids and the families who need them. We want to ensure that the American taxpayer isn't getting fleeced."

Predictably, California Gov. Gavin Newsom has previously dismissed the withholding of funds as "politically motivated." His office, however, offered no comment on this latest, decisive deferment from the Trump administration. While liberal politicians play political games, the America First administration is focused on real accountability and protecting the hard-earned money of American taxpayers.

This decisive action against rampant fraud in California's Medicaid system underscores the Trump administration's unwavering commitment to fiscal responsibility, law and order, and ensuring that every precious taxpayer dollar serves the American people, not corrupt schemes. It’s a clear message: the era of unchecked government waste is over, and accountability is here to stay.
