Trump Praises JD Vance’s Leadership: “I Picked Him Because He’s Smart”

President Donald Trump is making one thing unmistakably clear: he has complete confidence in Vice President JD Vance, and he says the reason is as straightforward today as it was when he made his choice.

Speaking exclusively with Breitbart News from the Oval Office last week, Trump praised Vance's performance as vice president, highlighting the qualities he believes have already made him an invaluable partner in advancing the America First agenda.

When asked whether he had been watching Vance's recent media appearances—including stops on The View and Real Time with Bill Maher—Trump answered without hesitation.

“I did,” the president said.

“I think he’s doing a great job,” Trump continued. “He’s a smart guy. I picked him because he’s smart, very simple. I didn’t pick him for his views so much. I picked him because he’s smart.”

Trump went on to explain that Vance's intellect and personal achievements stood out long before he entered the White House.

“He was always a smart, very smart person—great student, fantastic student. Went to Yale without the benefit of a family that gets him in. I think that he’s doing a very good job,” the president said.

The comments underscore the confidence Trump has placed in his vice president as the administration pushes forward on an ambitious America First agenda centered on economic growth, border security, restoring American manufacturing, and reining in the federal bureaucracy.

Vance has become one of the administration's most visible advocates, taking the administration's message directly into media environments that are often openly skeptical of conservative ideas. Rather than avoiding tough interviews, the vice president has embraced them, defending the administration's policies while making the case for putting American workers, families, and national interests first.

Trump's praise also offers a glimpse into how he evaluates leadership. While political insiders often obsess over ideology and optics, the president emphasized something far simpler: competence.

For Trump, Vance's academic success, sharp intellect, and ability to communicate under pressure made him the right choice for one of the highest offices in the country. Those qualities, the president suggested, have been validated by the vice president's performance in office.

As the administration continues implementing its agenda, Trump's public endorsement sends a clear message: he believes JD Vance is not only meeting expectations but proving exactly why he was chosen. In an era when Americans are demanding capable leadership and results instead of political theater, the president says his vice president is delivering on both.
