Trump Pressures Democrats to Work With ICE and End Sanctuary Policies to Protect Americans

President Donald Trump on Sunday called on Democrat governors and mayors across the country to start cooperating with federal immigration authorities, warning on Truth Social that their refusal to do so has created “dangerous circumstances” and contributed to the deaths of two American citizens. Apparently, some leaders still think ignoring federal law is a public safety strategy.

Trump laid out four clear actions he said Democrat officials must take to support his administration’s immigration enforcement efforts.

First, he said states and cities must turn over all criminal illegal migrants currently in state prisons and local jails — along with those who have active warrants or known criminal records — to federal authorities for immediate deportation.

Second, he called for local police to transfer custody of all illegal migrants they arrest to federal immigration officials.

Third, Trump said local law enforcement should be required to assist federal authorities in apprehending and detaining illegal migrants wanted for crimes.

Fourth, he urged Democrat leaders to partner with the federal government to quickly remove criminal illegal migrants, pointing to Democrat-led jurisdictions such as Memphis and Washington, D.C., which he said have cooperated and seen improved public safety. Funny how working together actually works.

In his criticism of Democrats, Trump specifically named Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, accusing them of refusing to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement and encouraging resistance to federal enforcement operations.

The president contrasted their approach with Republican-led states, arguing that cooperation between local and federal authorities results in orderly enforcement without unrest. He said that in Texas, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, and Louisiana, ICE arrested more than 150,000 criminal illegal migrants over the past year without protests or riots, crediting that outcome to coordination between federal and local law enforcement.

Trump accused Democrat-run sanctuary cities and states of blocking enforcement and prioritizing illegal immigrants over law-abiding citizens, which he said has created dangerous and unstable conditions for both officers and the public.

He also urged Congress to pass legislation ending sanctuary city policies nationwide, calling them “the root cause” of the problem. American cities, he said, should be “safe sanctuaries for law-abiding American citizens only.”

The statement comes as immigration enforcement remains a central issue in national politics, with sharp divisions between Republican and Democrat leaders over public safety, cooperation with federal authorities, and the role of local law enforcement.

Trump’s message was clear: enforcing the law does not require chaos, and protecting American communities should not be controversial. With strong leadership and real cooperation, the country can restore order, keep neighborhoods safe, and move forward with confidence.
