TRUMP SAYS CHINA HASN’T ACTED HOSTILE ON IRAN, SUGGESTS XI COULD HELP EASE TENSIONS

President Donald Trump said Thursday that Chinese President Xi Jinping “probably” has the ability to influence Iran, while also making clear that China has not taken hostile action against the United States during the ongoing tensions involving Tehran.

Speaking during an interview on Fox News’ Hannity, Trump discussed his recent conversations with Xi and addressed China’s relationship with Iran, particularly regarding oil purchases and stability in the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump explained that while China continues buying large amounts of Iranian oil, Xi reportedly assured him that Beijing would not provide military equipment to Tehran.

“That’s a big statement,” Trump said, noting that China is “not fighting a war with us or anything” and “hasn’t done anything hostile.”

That distinction matters, especially after years where foreign policy disasters and weak diplomacy left America juggling multiple global crises at once. Turns out having direct conversations with world leaders still works better than sending strongly worded press releases.

Trump also said Xi wants the Strait of Hormuz reopened and appeared frustrated by reports involving tolls being charged in the region.

“He didn’t like the fact that they’re charging tolls,” Trump said, while questioning where the money would even be going given the condition of Iran’s economy. “Their country’s decimated.”

During the interview, host Sean Hannity asked whether China could use its economic relationship with Iran to influence the regime’s behavior, considering Beijing remains one of Tehran’s largest oil customers.

Trump responded that Xi “probably” does have influence, though he emphasized China is not directly engaging militarily in the conflict.

The remarks come as tensions remain high across the Middle East following military operations against Iran and increasing concerns over global oil routes and energy markets. The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical shipping lanes, making stability there a major international concern.

Trump’s comments also reflect his broader foreign policy approach: maintaining pressure on adversaries while keeping communication open with major global powers like China when strategic interests overlap.

And while critics constantly predict catastrophe anytime Trump engages directly with foreign leaders, supporters argue his willingness to negotiate from a position of strength is exactly what helps prevent larger conflicts from spiraling out of control.
