President Donald Trump said Monday that the United States and Iran were resuming talks, claiming a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and denuclearize Tehran is “imminent.” Iranian officials, however, denied participating in direct negotiations with the U.S., stating they are communicating only through mediators in Oman.

Trump described the current moment as Iran’s “last chance” to reach an agreement. He accused Iranian leaders of publicly denying talks while privately requesting meetings. “Whether Iran wants to admit it or not, we are, in fact, talking,” the president said.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei pushed back on Trump’s account, insisting Tehran is not holding direct talks with the United States and is instead engaging mediators in Oman solely on issues related to safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari said Tuesday that Doha is working with all sides to find a diplomatic solution amid the conflicting public statements from Washington and Tehran. “We’re looking into a diplomatic solution,” al-Ansari said, adding that mediation efforts continue but offering no further details.

Meanwhile, a Liberia-flagged cargo ship became the fourth vessel since Friday to be attacked in the Strait of Hormuz, forcing the crew to abandon the ship. One crew member remains missing.
