Trump Signals Pickaxe Mountain Could Be Next as U.S. Keeps Pressure on Iran’s Nuclear Program

President Donald Trump delivered a blunt warning to Tehran on July 13, signaling that one of Iran's most deeply buried nuclear facilities could soon find itself in America's crosshairs if the regime continues down the path of nuclear escalation.

Speaking on The Hugh Hewitt Show, Trump made clear that the administration is closely monitoring Iran's underground Pickaxe Mountain complex, a site long viewed by analysts as a key piece of the regime's nuclear infrastructure.

"We're watching it closely. We see no activity there. They're not doing well with their nuclear situation ... but we'll probably give Pickaxe Mountain a shot relatively soon," Trump said.

The remark underscores the administration's determination to prevent the Iranian regime from advancing toward a nuclear weapon—a cornerstone of President Trump's America First national security strategy. Rather than allowing Tehran to exploit diplomacy as cover for continued enrichment, the administration has projected a willingness to use overwhelming strength to eliminate emerging threats before they mature.

Pickaxe Mountain sits near Iran's heavily damaged Natanz uranium enrichment facility and is believed to be among the country's most fortified nuclear sites. According to Andrea Stricker of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, a specialist in nuclear proliferation and Iran's nuclear program, the underground complex is buried roughly 330 feet below ground, making it one of the regime's hardest facilities to reach.

Its depth has made the site a focal point for military planners and nonproliferation experts, who have warned that deeply buried facilities could allow Iran to preserve sensitive nuclear operations even after strikes on above-ground infrastructure.

Trump's comments also send a clear message beyond Tehran. America's adversaries are being reminded that this White House is prepared to act decisively when U.S. national security is at stake. For years, critics argued that allowing Iran additional time only strengthened the regime's hand. The Trump administration has instead embraced the principle that peace is best preserved through unmistakable strength.

While no military action has been announced, Trump's statement leaves little doubt that the administration is keeping every option on the table. Whether Tehran chooses to de-escalate or continue testing American resolve may determine what comes next.

For supporters of the America First doctrine, the objective remains straightforward: prevent the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism from obtaining a nuclear weapon, protect American interests, stand firmly with U.S. allies, and ensure that deterrence is backed by credible action—not empty warnings.
