Their message was clear: send back the boats and secure the nation's borders, a cry that echoed through the streets after a week of tense standoffs over illegal migrants being ushered ashore.
Organized by the South Coast Patriots, the peaceful demonstration channeled widespread anger at the government's continued failure to halt illegal boat crossings from France. This latest outpouring of public sentiment followed the arrival of an estimated 140 illegal aliens at Portsmouth's Eastney Marina just days prior.
Chants of "send back the boats" and placards declaring "save our kids" and "stop the grooming gangs" underscored the deep concerns animating the patriotic demonstrators. Predictably, leftist counter-protesters rallied under the "Stand up to Racism" banner, brandishing signs that read "stop the far-right" and the familiar, yet factually challenged, "no one is illegal" mantra.
In a move that raised eyebrows among many, local Hampshire Police preemptively enacted a ban on face coverings for the protest under a new, draconian Section 158 of the Crime and Policing Act 2025. This heavy-handed response was reportedly prompted by the involvement of the recently formed Patriot Platform group, which had previously attempted to block illegal migrants from entering the country at the Portsmouth marina.

In a rather self-congratulatory statement, Hampshire Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones expressed satisfaction that the protests transpired "without major issue," adding, "Thankfully we didn't see repeated scenes of Sunday night with assaults on police officers and criminal damage to police vehicles and people's property." She concluded by stating that, "Hundreds of people took part in today's protest, and with the exception of a few people, it was peaceful and conducted in accordance with the new law calling for their faces to be uncovered." While she celebrated the "peaceful" nature of the protest, the glaring contradiction of the burqa-clad arrest under a mask ban seemed lost in her assessment.
