Illegitimate Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro is now in custody in New York City, awaiting his first in-person appearance in an American courtroom after U.S. special forces carried out an early-morning extraction operation in Venezuela on Saturday. Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were both indicted on multiple charges in the Southern District of New York — a detail critics keep glossing over while shouting the word “illegal.”
President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth addressed the media Saturday morning, outlining the successful operation that resulted in the capture of the Maduros. The White House also released real-time images from the operation, prompting the usual online speculation about who was — and wasn’t — visible in the snapshots.
As previously reported, leading Venezuelan opposition figure María Corina Machado commented after the news broke, signaling her preference for who should immediately assume the presidency. However, the long-term leadership of Venezuela remains undecided.
What was decided quickly was the reaction from the American left. Democrats across the country launched into a full-scale meltdown, including newly sworn-in New York City Mayor and Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani, who reportedly rushed to call the president. Congressional Democrats followed with predictable statements labeling the operation “illegal” and accusing the administration of launching a “war” without congressional authorization. Apparently indictments, warrants, and reality no longer count.
That’s where Vice President J.D. Vance stepped in with what amounted to a public service announcement. The quiet part out loud: Maduro was indicted. There are charges. And Attorney General Pam Bondi has made them available for anyone interested in facts rather than theatrics.
Some social media users also questioned why Vice President Vance did not appear in the White House situation room photos or at Trump’s press conference. Fox News White House correspondent Aishah Hasnie provided the explanation: Vance met with Trump earlier Friday in West Palm Beach to discuss the strikes, joined the operation via secure video during execution, and returned to Cincinnati after it concluded. The White House has intentionally limited co-locating the president and vice president outside Washington due to heightened security concerns. In other words, this was called planning, not absence.
As the dust settles, Secretary Rubio may soon find his portfolio expanding even further — a testament to how seriously this administration is taking hemispheric security and accountability.
While Democrats rage online and argue semantics, the reality is simple: a narco-dictator is off the board, facing American justice. Strong leadership, lawful action, and disciplined execution delivered results — and despite the noise, that’s a message most Americans understand and support.
