Washington Post Editor Pleads Guilty in Child Porn Case—Another Media Scandal Unfolds

A longtime video editor for The Washington Post has pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography, according to an announcement Friday by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro.

Thomas Pham LeGro was arrested in June 2025 after federal authorities executed a search warrant at his home and seized multiple electronic devices. During the search, investigators discovered a fractured hard drive hidden under a rug in his basement, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Agents also found a folder on his laptop containing 11 videos depicting the sexual abuse of prepubescent children. The material involved explicit acts carried out by adult men against minors.

LeGro had a lengthy tenure at The Washington Post, working there for 18 years across two separate periods beginning in 2000. He returned to the outlet as an editor on the breaking news desk and later became a senior producer for its International, Style, and Technology teams in 2015.

In 2018, LeGro was part of a team that received a Pulitzer Prize for reporting that influenced a U.S. Senate race in Alabama involving allegations against Roy Moore.

LeGro has now admitted guilt, and sentencing will be determined in accordance with federal law.
