As we reported, political analyst Nate Silver is already predicting who he thinks will be the Democratic choice for president in 2028: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). She’s already running around, acting like she’s running with her “Fight the Oligarchy” tour with Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT). This even as they jet around on private planes. They’re now the primary faces of the Democratic Party.
But on Friday on HBO’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher put a big damper on the Democrat hopes if they were to go in that direction, skewering the idea of AOC as the choice. He also teased a man who clapped at her name.
“Thank you,” Maher reacted to the audience member. “There’s that same guy, I call him the ‘always wrong’ guy – I’m kidding.”
“But I feel like big crowds, again, these shiny objects that the Democrats chase. It’s not about the big crowds when you’re talking at a festival or wherever they are, because I think that Bernie showed up at Coachella. That must’ve been fun for the fans,” Maher continued. “It’s who shows up on Election Day. And I just don’t see that’s the ticket.”
“It shouldn’t be her. It shouldn’t be her,” he concluded.
He’s smart enough to realize they need someone who tacks to the middle — and that’s not AOC. She would be great for the Republicans…to help them win, in all likelihood.
The public voting for President Donald Trump, moving right across virtually all age demographics, and even most being for the deportation of all illegal aliens, is a much more conservative America than most Democrats are understanding right now. Even Maher realizing that he has to recognize there are other viewpoints than his own is an indication of that.
Maher also took some shots at a couple of other Democratic names tossed around for 2028 as well.
Warning, suggestive language:
He dismissed New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker’s 25-hour floor speech as Democrats “whacking each other off.” Indeed, what did it achieve? Nothing. It’s a true sign of what Democrats are now: performance theater. This is not going to be what gets it done for the Democrats, Maher said.
Maher even took Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to task over her ridiculous effort to cover her face with files during her visit to the White House to talk to Trump.
“We need a better Democrat than that,” Maher said.
What they need are Democrats with common sense who are honest and provide results. That’s a tall order.
But the Democrats being Democrats are likely to make all the same mistakes again that they’re making now. And that’s just going to help the Republicans.
