In a display of breathtaking political amnesia, former ESPN personality Jemele Hill recently decried the network as a "political lobbying firm" after Senator Ted Cruz's appearance on 'College GameDay.' This bold declaration, however, conveniently overlooks a decade of overt progressive activism championed by Hill herself and, indeed, ESPN's corporate halls. It seems some only recognize 'politics' when a conservative voice dares to enter the room.

Hill, a figure notorious for her politically charged commentary, took to social media platform X to issue her indignant verdict: "Did not know ESPN had become a political lobbying firm." The irony, as any casual observer of modern media can attest, is so thick it could be cut with a knife.

This is the same Jemele Hill who, alongside Michael Smith, co-hosted 'SC6,' a program that frequently veered into divisive political ideologies, often centered on race. It was a platform used to promote radical ideas, including overt endorsements of the Black Lives Matter movement. One recalls July 2016, when Hill passionately argued for 'accountability of police officers who commit unjust actions' after WNBA players wore Black Lives Matter shirts – a stance she presented as anything but political. Apparently, some forms of political commentary are simply 'discussion' while others are 'lobbying.'

ESPN itself greenlit Hill to moderate an 'Athletes, Responsibility and Violence' town hall in August 2016, specifically focusing on guns, violence, and law enforcement – hardly topics removed from the political arena. Her legacy at ESPN also includes a string of inflammatory statements in 2017, where she lambasted police and conservatives, claiming the 'policing & judicial system are institutionally racist' and echoing Colin Kaepernick’s comparison of officers to 'slave patrols.' Let us not forget her infamous Twitter declaration labeling then-President Donald Trump a 'white supremacist,' an outburst so extreme even ESPN felt compelled to release a public statement attempting to distance itself from her rhetoric. And yet, she sees no political lobbying there. Funny how that works.

But Hill’s selective indignation doesn't just stop at her own past. ESPN, the very network she accuses, has itself become a consistent mouthpiece for the Democrat agenda. Consider Elle Duncan, another former ESPN personality, who in 2022 used her on-air platform to protest Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' 'Parental Rights in Education Act' – misleadingly dubbed the 'Don't Say Gay' bill by the radical left. Duncan declared, "We understand the gravity of this legislation and also how it’s affecting so many families across this country, and because of that, our allyship is going to take a front seat, and with that, we’re going to pause in solidarity." This was a blatant political statement, an overt act of ideological lobbying against parental rights and common sense.

And who could forget ESPN’s outright celebration of Lia Thomas – a biological male who undeniably stole records, opportunities, and trophies from deserving female athletes – during Women's History Month in 2023? That was not merely 'news'; it was a politically partisan endorsement of a destructive anti-woman ideology that undermines the integrity of female sports. The list of ESPN’s departures from genuine sports commentary into progressive advocacy is extensive.

In stark contrast to these ideological crusades, Senator Cruz’s appearance on 'College GameDay' was to discuss the bipartisan 'Save College Sports Act,' a critical piece of legislation he co-authored to address the chaos plaguing college athletics due to the unregulated Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) landscape and the rampant transfer portal. This is a practical, policy-focused discussion about the future of a beloved American institution, not a divisive culture war battle. Yet, for Hill and her fellow travelers on the radical left, policy discussions from conservatives are deemed 'political lobbying,' while their own ideological crusades are merely 'allyship' or 'social commentary.'

It's a double standard as clear as day. Hill remained silent when 'College GameDay' hosted Pennsylvania Democrat Governor Josh Shapiro in 2025 during its visit to the University of Pittsburgh. This selective outrage, this willful blindness to one's own hypocrisy while railing against perceived slights from conservatives, is a hallmark of the modern woke left. Americans are tired of the media pretending to be neutral while actively pushing a radical agenda. It's time for accountability, and for media figures like Hill to look in the mirror before casting stones. The public deserves honest news, not thinly veiled political activism masquerading as sports commentary.
