Absurd. Dem. Rep. Kamlager-Dover: Requiring ID with Mail-in-Ballots 'Puts Our Identity at Risk'

Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D-CA) claimed Tuesday that requiring voters to include a copy of their identification with mail-in ballots would put “our identity at risk” and prevent many women from voting. The Democrat made the remarks on CNN’s “News Central” while criticizing the SAVE America Act, a Republican-led effort to strengthen election security.

When asked about recent polling showing Democrats with only a narrow lead on the generic ballot, Kamlager-Dove responded by attacking the legislation and House Speaker Mike Johnson. “They see a speaker who has no shame and who is pushing forward bills that are going to hurt the American people, like the SAVE Act, which isn’t going to save anyone,” she said. “In fact, it would prevent a lot of women from being able to vote. And it would put our identity at risk if you now have to send in a copy of your I.D. with your mail-in ballot.”

She also tied the criticism to broader complaints about rising gas prices and President Trump’s priorities.

The SAVE America Act seeks to implement stricter verification measures for mail-in voting, including voter ID requirements, to safeguard the integrity of elections.

Critics like Kamlager-Dove continue to portray these common-sense protections — already standard for most routine transactions in daily life and integral part on any electoral process everywhere else in the world— as barriers to voting rather than safeguards for it.

These kind of comments highlights the growing divide on election integrity: one side demands verifiable processes to protect every legal vote, while the other resists even basic documentation under the guise of protecting “identity.”

For millions of Americans, showing ID is not a burden — it is a normal and reasonable part of responsible citizenship. But being normal and reasonable are not qualities of the current democratic party, for sure.
