Americans Injured in Shooting at Teotihuacán Pyramids Tourist Site

A shooting at one of Mexico’s most visited historical landmarks left multiple people injured, including six U.S. citizens, after a gunman opened fire at the Teotihuacán Pyramids on Monday. ??
Authorities identified the suspect as a Mexican national who had reportedly visited the site multiple times prior to the attack. According to officials, these visits were part of a deliberate effort to study the location and plan the assault, suggesting a level of premeditation behind the incident.
The shooting occurred around 11:20 a.m., when local law enforcement first received emergency reports. The area, known for attracting large numbers of international tourists, quickly became the focus of a major security response. Mexico’s National Guard was deployed to the scene shortly after the first alerts were issued.
In total, several individuals from different countries were injured, including visitors from the United States, Russia, Brazil, the Netherlands, and Canada. The presence of international victims highlights the global significance of the site and the widespread impact of the attack.
Officials reported that the gunman died by suicide approximately 25 minutes after the shooting began, around 11:45 a.m., bringing an end to the immediate threat. Emergency responders then focused on assisting the injured and securing the area.
The Teotihuacán Pyramids, located just outside Mexico City, is one of the country’s most iconic archaeological sites, drawing millions of visitors each year. The incident has raised concerns about tourist safety and security measures at major cultural landmarks.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to better understand the motive behind the attack and whether additional security measures may be needed to prevent similar incidents in the future.
