Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., ignited a firestorm of criticism after making a demonstrably false claim that the House-passed National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) would "merge parts of our military with the Israel Defense Forces." Her incendiary assertion drew immediate and fierce accusations of distorting crucial legislation and promoting anti-Semitic tropes.

The controversy centers on Section 219 of the recently passed NDAA, a provision designed to deepen the critical U.S.-Israel defense integration. This section calls for expanded cooperation on vital areas such as military technology, supply chains, research, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and joint exercises – a standard practice among close allies, not a "merge" of sovereign militaries.

Despite the clear language of the bill, Ocasio-Cortez took to X ahead of the House vote, declaring that the NDAA "includes a provision to merge parts of our military with the IDF." She then bizarrely labeled this an "existential threat to American sovereignty and democracy," urging every member of Congress to vote "NO."

Her post was swiftly debunked by Republican lawmakers and former Trump administration officials, who lambasted her for misrepresenting the bill and undermining a vital strategic alliance.

Former Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin minced no words, calling Ocasio-Cortez's claim "FALSE." In a scathing rebuke on X, Zeldin wrote, "Instead of merging the part of your brain that hates Jews with the part of your brain concocting your daily lies, you should try merging the part of your brain responsible for reading bill text with the part of your brain responsible for critical thinking."

Rep. Mike Lawler (R-Ny) similarly blasted Ocasio-Cortez, directly urging her to "stop stoking Jew hatred." Lawler added, "Good grief, you are either obtuse or intentionally lying. We are not merging our military with the IDF." He explained that the provision simply expands the type of defense cooperation the United States already maintains with numerous close allies, fostering intelligence sharing, joint military exercises, and collaborative weapons development.

While the radical left's narrative spun out of control with Ocasio-Cortez's wild claims, some lawmakers who opposed Section 219 framed their concerns differently. Republican Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky, for instance, introduced an amendment to strip the provision, but House leadership did not permit a vote on it. Following this procedural block, Massie announced his opposition to the entire defense bill.

"Unfortunately the Rule passed just now and no debate or vote was allowed on section 219, integration of US military technology and supply chains with Israel's," Massie wrote on X. "The NDAA will receive a recorded vote tomorrow with section 219 in it. I'll vote no."

Representative Ro Khanna, D-Calif., who partnered with Massie on the amendment, also criticized House leadership for blocking a vote, stating that Congress had prevented consideration of a proposal to stop "the integration of our military with Israel's." Khanna further asserted, "It is unconscionable to not even have a vote. We will be continuing on and will not be intimidated by the pro-Israel lobby."

While Massie and Khanna raised concerns about the *scope* of integration and the lack of a vote, their language notably refrained from the baseless "merging militaries" claim peddled by Ocasio-Cortez. This distinction highlights the extreme and often misleading rhetoric employed by elements of the radical left, which routinely seeks to undermine America's alliances and national security interests under the guise of "sovereignty." The incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against disinformation and the imperative to defend the truth and America's enduring commitments to its allies.
