Bessent: Treasury Moves to Block Federal Benefits for “Illegal Aliens,” Prioritizing American Families

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed Friday that the U.S. Treasury is moving decisively—finally—to cut off federal benefits to illegal aliens, following direct orders from President Donald Trump. You know, the kind of move most Americans assumed was already happening… until they found out the previous administration had been handing out tax benefits like Halloween candy.

Bessent announced on X that Treasury will soon issue proposed regulations to make it unmistakably clear that the refunded portions of several major tax benefits are no longer available to illegal or otherwise non-qualified aliens. These benefits include:

  • Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)

  • Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC)

  • American Opportunity Tax Credit (for education expenses)

  • Saver’s Match Credit

In other words: benefits meant for American workers, American parents, American students, and American savers—not individuals who violated U.S. law to enter the country.

By moving to preserve these benefits for U.S. citizens, the Treasury is simply doing what any responsible administration should’ve done years ago. But here we are, once again relying on Trump to clean up the mess.

This shift marks a major step toward restoring fairness, accountability, and basic common sense to the federal system—something hard-working Americans deserve.

And with Trump leading the charge, it’s yet another sign that the country is finally moving in the right direction.
