President Joe Biden was supposed to put “the adults back in charge” on the world stage and reignite our alliances from the supposed errors of the Trump era. On that front, his tenure couldn’t be more of a disaster.
On Wednesday, Biden lumped in American allies Japan and India with China and Russia, calling the countries “xenophobic” in order to push his talking points on immigration that are designed to distract from the border crisis he is overseeing. This comes right on the heels of Biden angering Papua New Guinea by playing into racial stereotypes while spouting a fictional tale about how his uncle was eaten by cannibals during World War II.
Biden’s foreign faux pas aren’t the only problems with his supposedly “adult” leadership, as his foreign policy issues go beyond being a doddering old man unnecessarily insulting other countries. The botched Afghanistan withdrawal didn’t just leave Americans and Afghan allies behind to the whims of the Taliban; it also angered European allies who saw their own positions undermined by Biden’s frantic, poorly planned decision.
That same decision also fed into Russia’s decision to invade Ukraine, further proof that the adults are not, in fact, “in charge.” Meanwhile, Biden has also continued undermining another American ally in Israel, which he is pressuring to stop defending itself against a terrorist organization bent on Israel’s destruction all while trying to reward the terrorist group by reaffirming support for a two-state solution.
Biden’s idea of American leadership has benefited the aforementioned terrorist groups, as well as authoritarians such as China and Iran. At what point do we think it is fair to say that a man known for being wrong about every major foreign policy issue who was campaigning while saying that China was nothing more than a friendly competitor was never going to put the adults back in charge?
Insulting American allies and rolling over for American adversaries is not leadership, and yet it is all Biden is bringing to the table on the world stage. The campaign image of Biden as some dignified statesman who would bring back global respect for America was a fraud, and Biden continues to prove it every day.
