Federal authorities have detained a person in connection with the kidnapping of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, the mother of TODAY show co-host Savannah Guthrie, according to sources from the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Office.

Earlier Tuesday, the FBI deployed its elite hostage rescue team to Tucson, joined by multiple SWAT units operating across several counties. The move followed the bureau’s release of surveillance images and video showing a masked individual approaching Guthrie’s home and deliberately attempting to block or conceal the Nest camera — because nothing says “totally innocent” like hiding from a doorbell camera.

After releasing the images, federal and local law enforcement teams canvassed the surrounding neighborhood, using the newly obtained footage to identify potential leads. That coordinated effort led to the detention announced by authorities.
