As Democrats rush to condemn Operation Epic Fury — the joint U.S.–Israel strikes that eliminated Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and much of the regime’s leadership — they’ve rolled out their usual buzzwords: “illegal,” “dangerous,” “criminal,” and whatever else their thesaurus could cough up.
California’s governor, Gavin Newsom, apparently decided this was his moment to shine. With his political stock sinking after a string of gaffes and rumors swirling about presidential ambitions, Newsom (or his social media interns) tried to troll President Donald Trump over fuel prices.
It went about as well as one of California’s wildfire management plans.
The taxpayer-funded Governor Newsom Press Office account posted on X: “We’re watching this space. Closely.”
Watching what space, exactly — the president’s timeline? Shouldn’t the governor be watching over his own state instead of doomscrolling on social media?
There’s one topic Newsom should avoid at all costs: gas prices. California routinely leads the nation at the pump by a mile, refineries are fleeing the state, and residents are already packing up. And now there’s even talk of a mileage tax — because apparently paying more for gas isn’t painful enough.
Unsurprisingly, the clapback was immediate. The U.S. Oil & Gas Association delivered a response so sharp it didn’t need refining. Their message boiled down to this: if Newsom wants to brag, maybe don’t pick homelessness, affordability, betrayal, or fuel costs as your talking points.
The governor might want to schedule a meeting with his communications team, because if they keep stepping into buzzsaws like this, he’s going to need more than a PR strategy — he’ll need a helmet.
While Democrats fling insults at Operation Epic Fury, reality keeps interrupting their narrative. And when California’s governor tries to lecture anyone about the price at the pump, he only reminds Americans why his state is the cautionary tale — and why President Trump’s strong leadership still looks a whole lot better by comparison.
