California's War on Transparency: Supreme Court Orders Sheriff Bianco to Return Seized Ballots
Who Needs Transparency? CA Supreme Court Delivers Bad News to Sheriff Chad Bianco
Bianco For Governor

It wasn't long ago that Republican Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco represented a beacon of hope, seemingly poised to disrupt California's entrenched political landscape. Conservatives dared to dream of a November election where Bianco and businessman/pundit Steve Hilton would face off, ensuring a Republican governor for the Golden State, regardless of who won.

Alas, this is California, and the deep blue tide proved too strong. While Hilton advanced to challenge former Biden-era HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra, Sheriff Bianco’s gubernatorial bid ultimately fell short.

Yet, Bianco made national headlines in February when he courageously seized 650,000 ballots from the November 2025 Proposition 50 election. His bold action came after significant discrepancies were alleged in the vote count for Prop. 50, Gavin Newsom’s brazen effort to gut the state constitution, redraw districts mid-decade, and cement California's tilt even further leftward. Predictably, that destructive proposition passed, and the gerrymandered new districts are now in effect, further eroding fair representation.

California's ruling class, notorious for its aversion to scrutiny, predictably threw a tantrum over Bianco’s move. They dragged him into court, and this past Thursday, the state Supreme Court delivered two rulings squarely in their favor, effectively shutting down any real investigation.

The judges ruled that Bianco must return the ballots, and crucially, "refrain from further handling" them, claiming his actions created "a substantial risk to election integrity."

One justice, in a breathtaking display of judicial overreach, argued that "allowing law enforcement unfettered access to ballots, or the ability to handle and count them in secret based on unregulated protocols, itself creates a substantial risk to election integrity." This statement is as ironic as it is alarming, coming from a court that just slammed the door on transparency.

Considering that counting votes in California routinely drags on for weeks, and the state's entire system is riddled with accusations of potential fraud, one might expect officials to welcome an investigation. But not in Gavin Newsom's California. The Governor, ever the opportunist, wasted no time gloating over the court’s decision, painting it as a victory for "democracy."

"Today’s ruling affirms that in California we will defend democracy — using every branch of government," Newsom declared, adding, "And the new laws I signed just last week add new protections so attacks like this cannot happen again. People deserve to know their ballot is counted and secure, and in California we will do everything we can to protect that constitutional right — this year, and beyond."

Newsom and his allies got what they wanted: the immediate halt of a critical investigation. But what they conspicuously failed to provide was any credible explanation for the glaring 45,896-vote discrepancy initially reported in the Riverside County Prop. 50 ballot count. The county registrar offered a convoluted rationale, claiming the final tally was accurate, but serious questions stubbornly persist. Why, one might ask, would more sunshine on such a critical issue ever be a bad thing?

It’s patently clear we will see no further effort to investigate this matter. The last thing these slick, leftist politicians want is genuine transparency when it might expose uncomfortable truths. For them, a rigged system is a feature, not a bug, and California voters are left to wonder what else they’re not being told.
