Kilpatrick Ave. And less than 30 minutes after that, a 29-year-old man in the 2800 block of S. Kedzie Ave. became another victim of a drive-by shooting, his life extinguished on the streets of a city supposedly 'safe' from firearms.

The state imposes a 72-hour waiting period on gun purchases, enforces a red flag law, an "assault weapons" ban, a "high capacity" magazine ban, a concealed carry permit requirement, gun storage laws, a "Glock switch" ban, and a bump stock ban. Furthermore, regulations target firearms that Democrats label as "ghost guns."
Yet, the controls don't stop there. Chicago, and its seat Cook County, pile on additional restrictions, making the city a virtual fortress of Second Amendment infringements compared to other parts of the state. According to the Chicago Sun-Times Homicide Tracker, a shocking 241 people have been killed in Chicago thus far in 2026 alone.
