CNN Melts Down Over Scott Jennings, CEO Tells Staff to Grow Up

Let’s be honest: CNN will always lean left, no matter how many executives promise to “rebuild trust” or shuffle anchors like deck chairs on the Titanic. It’s baked into the network’s DNA — the old “Clinton News Network” nickname didn’t come from nowhere. Still, even a broken clock gets it right twice a day, and this week CNN accidentally stumbled into one of those moments.

Reports say an “all-hands” meeting last Wednesday turned into what can only be described as a staff struggle session over conservative commentator Scott Jennings. Jennings, a Salem News Channel host and regular on Abby Phillip’s NewsNight, has been upsetting his CNN colleagues by doing something radical: stating conservative views plainly and without the usual left-approved vocabulary.

Because Jennings refuses to sugarcoat reality, he’s apparently become too much for some CNN panelists and staffers. Frustrated that they can’t control him or force him into politically correct language, they reportedly demanded that CNN Worldwide CEO Mark Thompson “rein him in.” You can practically hear the collective gasp.

But here’s where it gets interesting. Thompson didn’t cave. Instead, he explained that contributors are not held to the same language rules as journalists and defended the debates Jennings sparks on the show. He even praised the viral arguments on NewsNight, saying they provide a “public service” by reflecting the real anger, passion, and policy disagreements happening across the country.

Not everyone at CNN liked hearing that, which is shocking in the same way that water being wet is shocking.

Thompson’s response was a rare acknowledgment that political diversity matters — even at CNN. And Jennings isn’t alone. Shermichael Singleton is another conservative voice who regularly goes head-to-head with leftist panels and CNN anchors alike, proving that conservative viewpoints can survive in hostile territory.

No one’s giving CNN a gold star for this, but Thompson’s pushback matters. It shows he understands that debates — real debates — are part of the story, not something to be sanitized for comfort. Even more telling, his comments made clear that Jennings isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

And that’s actually good news. Keeping conservative voices inside media spaces dominated by the left is one of the few ways real conversations still happen. If even CNN can occasionally allow that, there’s still hope for honest debate — and for a media landscape that reflects the country as it actually is, not as activists wish it were.
