CNN is taking another round of heat after President Donald Trump announced that his latest physical examination at Walter Reed Military Medical Center came back “PERFECTLY” normal — undercutting yet another wave of media speculation surrounding his health.
The controversy erupted after CNN featured cardiologist Dr. Jonathan Reiner discussing what he claimed were concerns about Trump allegedly appearing sleepy during public events and meetings.
Reiner, who has never treated Trump personally, speculated on-air about possible “daytime somnolence” and even suggested the president should undergo formal testing for sleep apnea.
“The president has severe daytime somnolence; he falls asleep very often,” Reiner claimed, while referencing videos and photos of Trump during Oval Office meetings and Memorial Day events.
And once again, Americans were treated to another episode of cable-news physicians diagnosing political opponents through television clips and freeze-frame screenshots. Because apparently that’s serious medicine now.
The timing became especially awkward for CNN after Trump posted an update following his scheduled six-month physical at Walter Reed.
“Just finished my 6 month physical at Walter Reed Military Medical Center,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Everything checked out PERFECTLY. Thank you to the great Doctors and Staff! Heading back to the White House. President DJT.”
The update immediately triggered backlash online against CNN personalities and commentators who had spent days amplifying speculation about Trump’s health and mental sharpness.
The administration’s Rapid Response team quickly joined in, mocking what many conservatives describe as the media’s ongoing obsession with portraying Trump as physically or mentally unfit despite repeated medical evaluations clearing him.
Critics argue mainstream outlets routinely apply wildly different standards depending on the politician involved.
For years, conservatives pointed to moments involving President Joe Biden — including verbal stumbles, physical mishaps, and public confusion — that many media organizations initially downplayed or defended. Meanwhile, Trump’s every facial expression, pause, or momentary eye closure often becomes breaking-news analysis material.
Apparently blinking too long during a meeting now qualifies as a national medical emergency if your last name is Trump.
The broader frustration among Trump supporters centers on what they see as relentless attempts by establishment media figures to undermine the president through insinuation, selective editing, and speculative commentary rather than direct policy criticism.
CNN in particular has faced ongoing accusations from conservatives of pushing heavily anti-Trump narratives while presenting opinion and speculation under the appearance of objective analysis.
The debate also reflects a larger shift in public trust toward legacy media institutions.
Many Americans increasingly view cable news networks less as neutral news organizations and more as openly partisan political actors competing for outrage-driven audiences.
As a result, segments like the one involving Dr. Reiner often end up backfiring politically because critics see them as performative attacks rather than serious medical analysis.
Trump, meanwhile, continues using moments like these to reinforce one of his favorite political themes: that much of the media establishment remains obsessed with attacking him personally no matter the facts.
And judging by the reaction online after his “PERFECTLY” health update, plenty of Americans appear more than willing to laugh along at CNN’s expense.
