DHS Secretary Kristi Noem Sets the Record Straight, Exposes Walz and Frey’s Failures in Minnesota ICE Incident

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem didn’t hold back Wednesday evening, delivering a no-nonsense briefing on the recent Minneapolis anti-ICE incident—and in the process, making it painfully clear that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Mayor Jacob Frey have a long history of obstructing law enforcement.

The incident involved 37-year-old Renee Good, who reportedly struck an ICE agent with her SUV during a federal enforcement operation, prompting defensive gunfire that left her dead. As expected, local Democrats were quick to blame ICE, with Frey and Walz fanning outrage before any facts were fully available. Walz even threatened to deploy the National Guard, echoing the chaos of the George Floyd riots in 2020.

Noem, however, cut through the political posturing. She highlighted a consistent pattern of non-cooperation from the city and state, revealing that Minneapolis and Minnesota had refused to coordinate with DHS during enforcement operations.

“We’ve NEVER had a cooperative arrangement with law enforcement here...We haven't had the cooperation of the state of Minnesota,” Noem explained, pointing out that federal officers often get inconsistent support when calling for backup. “If you talk to ANY of these federal law enforcement officers, they'll say that when you call for back-up...it's hit and miss.”

By framing the facts this way, Noem not only defended the ICE officers’ actions as self-defense but also exposed the long-standing leadership failures in Minneapolis and Minnesota. The briefing made it clear: when local officials like Frey and Walz choose politics over public safety, American law enforcement—and ultimately, citizens—pay the price.

Noem’s remarks served as a stark reminder that the federal government’s commitment to enforcing the law will not be deterred by local obstruction or political grandstanding. In the end, facts matter—and this time, the facts landed squarely on the side of law, order, and accountability.
