DNA Evidence Points to Abduction in the Disappearance of Nancy Guthrie

Another day, another reminder that facts still matter — even when they’re uncomfortable. Investigators searching for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old woman who vanished from her Tucson, Arizona home, are now focusing on disturbing forensic evidence found outside her residence as the search enters its second week.

Photos show blood droplets on the ground near her front door and along her driveway, painting a troubling picture of what may have happened in the early morning hours of her disappearance. According to forensic pathologist Michael Baden, the blood patterns strongly suggest she was bleeding from either her face or hands.

“The nature of the blood spots with pale centers or donut shapes is typical for drops that come from the nose or mouth, because they’re mixed with air,” Baden explained. In plain terms, that means she may have been bleeding from her nose or mouth — not exactly the kind of thing that happens during a peaceful morning routine. Otherwise, Baden noted, the blood would have come from a cut higher up, possibly from the hands or face.

Law enforcement has already confirmed through DNA analysis that the blood found at the scene belongs to Guthrie herself. Baden added that the pattern of the droplets suggests she either could not stop the bleeding or did not have the chance to do so as she moved from her front door toward the driveway.

“These blood drops onto the porch area occurred during an abduction,” Baden stated. “They did not occur by innocent means.” In other words, this was not a simple accident with a bandage and some iodine waiting inside — despite what the “everything is fine” crowd might wish to believe.

Baden emphasized that the shape, number, and location of the droplets are entirely consistent with a person bleeding while being taken against their will. “These are not innocent droplets,” he said, reinforcing that the evidence points clearly toward an abduction scenario.

Guthrie disappeared from her home in the early hours of Sunday, Feb. 1. She was reported missing later that day when she failed to appear for her church’s weekly livestream — something she never missed. Sometimes the smallest routines tell the biggest stories.

In a statement, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said it continues to rely on public assistance.

“We appreciate the assistance and support we have received from the Tucson community. The FBI continues to offer a $50,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of Nancy Guthrie. You can help by submitting tips to the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI,” the agency said.

While the circumstances are serious, the strong response from the community and the continued investigation offer hope. With clear evidence and public cooperation, justice still has a fighting chance — and that’s something worth standing behind.
