DOJ Crackdown on Illegal Voting by Foreign Nationals Sends Warning Ahead of Midterms

The U.S. Department of Justice is intensifying its crackdown on unlawful voting by foreign nationals, announcing that federal prosecutors have charged 64 noncitizens across 17 states with illegal voting offenses in a sweeping election-integrity enforcement effort ahead of November’s midterm elections.

The figures, obtained by Fox News Digital, underscore the Trump administration’s commitment to enforcing federal election laws and protecting the integrity of American elections. With control of Congress potentially hinging on razor-thin margins, federal officials are warning that unlawful ballots and weaknesses in voter-registration systems cannot be ignored.

Minnesota leads the nationwide tally with 11 defendants, followed by Pennsylvania with 10 and Texas with nine. Louisiana has five defendants, while New Jersey, California, and Florida each have four, according to the report.

The enforcement campaign comes as election officials face renewed scrutiny over safeguards designed to ensure that only eligible citizens participate in federal elections. Although the cases involve a range of alleged offenses, including fraudulent voter-registration applications and ballots cast in multiple elections, the charges highlight the Justice Department’s broader efforts to investigate potential violations of election law.

Fox News Digital reported that the DOJ has charged 104 people with election fraud-related offenses since President Donald Trump returned to the White House in 2025.

Federal officials have emphasized that even a small number of unlawful ballots could prove consequential in closely contested races. The Justice Department pointed to Iowa’s 2020 2nd Congressional District contest, in which Republican Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks ultimately prevailed over Democrat Rita Hart by six votes following a contentious dispute over the election results.

“Every illegal vote cancels out the vote of a lawful American citizen,” a DOJ spokesperson told Fox News Digital, highlighting the stakes involved in enforcing election laws.

Among the recent cases cited in the report are allegations involving a Filipino national accused of voting unlawfully in Pennsylvania and a Ghanaian green-card holder in Minnesota accused of falsely claiming U.S. citizenship and voting in the state’s 2026 primary.

The cases illustrate the range of allegations federal prosecutors are pursuing. However, the charges do not establish that every defendant is guilty, and each individual is entitled to due process.

The Trump administration has made election integrity a central priority, arguing that enforcing existing voting restrictions is essential to maintaining public confidence in democratic institutions. The latest prosecutions signal that federal authorities intend to pursue suspected violations rather than leave potential abuses unexamined.

As November’s midterms approach, the Justice Department’s actions serve as a warning to anyone considering casting a ballot illegally: Federal election laws carry serious consequences, and prosecutors are prepared to investigate suspected violations.

For Republicans and other advocates of stricter election safeguards, the crackdown reinforces a longstanding argument that voter eligibility rules must be enforced consistently. Ensuring that eligible Americans can vote while preventing unlawful participation remains a critical test for election administrators nationwide.

With control of Congress at stake, the administration’s message is clear: Protecting the ballot box requires enforcing the law, investigating credible allegations of misconduct, and preserving the principle that American elections must be decided by eligible voters.
