At the heart of these serious allegations is Amber Lee, a veteran Democratic political consultant. Lee reportedly worked for "Decoy Dan's" campaign while simultaneously serving as a board member for the 907 Initiative. Federal law is clear: individuals are prohibited from concurrently assisting a political candidate and holding a leadership role for an outside group running targeted advertising campaigns intended to benefit that same candidate's race. This is a bright-line rule for good reason – to prevent the very kind of shadow coordination that erodes public trust.
Court filings outline that the 907 Initiative directed approximately $575,000 toward negative ads against the incumbent Senator Sullivan in the crucial final three months of the primary election cycle. Americans for Public Trust highlighted a telling detail: just before "Decoy Dan" officially declared his candidacy in late May, the 907 Initiative launched a wave of political spots criticizing the Republican senator. Public disclosures further indicate that "Decoy Dan's" campaign later owed Lee's consulting firm more than $4,300 for political services – a transaction that raises serious questions about the supposed independence of these operations.
