Empty Chairs, Grave Dangers: Democrats Abandon Crucial Terror Hearing on Muslim Brotherhood

In a move that has drawn sharp condemnation from conservatives, Senate Democrats conspicuously boycotted a critical national security hearing this week, leaving their seats empty rather than confronting the grave threat posed by the Muslim Brotherhood and its global terror ties. Chaired by Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), the Senate Judiciary Committee on Federal Courts convened to examine “Hidden in Plain Sight: Confronting the Muslim Brotherhood Network,” a session intended to scrutinize the organization’s deep connections to groups like Hamas.

Despite the undeniable national security implications of the hearing, signs quickly emerged that the five Democrat members of the subcommittee intended to skip the proceedings. Their collective excuse? An astonishing accusation that the GOP was merely attempting to “scapegoat all Muslims” and that they had “no intention of indulging this political creepshow.”

As Fox News’ Bill Melugin reported, the boycott was a premeditated stunt, framed as a righteous stand against perceived Islamophobia. Yet, the facts paint a starkly different picture. The Muslim Brotherhood, an organization promoting governance based on Islamic principles, has seen several of its branches formally labeled as terrorist organizations. The U.S. Treasury Department itself imposed sanctions on a senior leader of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood just last year, underscoring the serious nature of the threat.

Senator Cruz minced no words in response to the Democrats’ deliberate absence, branding it “an embarrassment and a disservice” to the American people. He forcefully reminded those present – and the absent – that “The Muslim Brotherhood and its branches encourage, facilitate, and provide resources for conducting jihadist terrorism across the world. They are committed to overthrowing the United States and the governments of our allies.”

Cruz’s opening statement directly addressed the empty chairs on the Democrat side, challenging the public to ask, “why? Not a single member of the minority decided that a hearing on terrorism was worth their time.” He directly linked the Muslim Brotherhood’s network to the horrors of October 7th, when “dozens of Americans who died … at the hand of Gaza’s Muslim Brotherhood branch, Hamas.” The implications of such a boycott, in the face of recent atrocities, are chilling.

The list of absent Democrats – a roll call of those who prioritized political posturing over national security – serves as a stark reminder of the widening chasm between the American people’s priorities and those of the radicalized Left.

It’s difficult to view this boycott in isolation, especially coming on the heels of recent primaries where the Democratic Party continues to cede ground to its fringe progressive elements. As mainstream Democrats tie themselves into knots, claiming to represent working Americans while embracing increasingly radical agendas, their actions speak louder than their hollow promises. Speaker Mike Johnson (LA-04) recently echoed the widespread conservative sentiment, observing the Left’s growing influence with palpable concern.

This latest dereliction of duty by Senate Democrats is not merely a political spat; it is a profound failure of governance and a dangerous disregard for national security. When public servants choose to prioritize cynical partisan attacks and the coddling of a radical base over confronting genuine threats to American lives, they betray the public trust and embolden those who seek to harm our nation. America First means putting the safety and security of our citizens above all else, a lesson these Democrats seem intent on ignoring.
