Fatal Collision in Oregon Skies: Three Lives Lost in Horrific Helicopter Crash Near McMinnville

Three individuals tragically lost their lives Thursday afternoon when two helicopters collided mid-air near McMinnville Municipal Airport in Oregon, crashing into a nearby field and prompting immediate highway closures.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the devastating incident, stating that a Robinson R22 and an Airbus H125 helicopter crashed around 2:15 p.m. local time. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) refined the collision time to approximately 2:10 p.m.

Authorities have since confirmed that all three occupants of the aircraft perished in the collision. The Airbus helicopter, identified as an AS350B2, was reportedly on a maintenance flight, while the Robinson R22 Beta was conducting an instructional flight.

The Yamhill County Sheriff's Office identified the two victims aboard the Robinson R22 as 22-year-old flight instructor Maddie Aasbo of Texas, and 31-year-old student pilot Christopher James Joughin of the United Kingdom. Joughin's identity was released Friday after next-of-kin notification.

The sole occupant of the Airbus helicopter was identified as 38-year-old Tyler Delane Sturdevant of Newberg, Oregon.
