Fundraiser for Convicted Killer Karmelo Anthony’s Family Reportedly Used for Moving and Living Expenses

The fundraising campaign established for the family of convicted murderer Karmelo Anthony appears to have been removed from the crowdfunding platform GiveSendGo following his conviction and sentencing.

Anthony was sentenced Tuesday to 35 years in prison after being convicted of murder. He has since filed a notice of appeal as he seeks to challenge the verdict.

The fundraiser, organized by Anthony’s mother, Kala Hayes, was originally posted on GiveSendGo on April 15, 2025, less than two weeks after Anthony fatally stabbed 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas.

According to reports, money raised through the campaign was used for moving expenses and other living costs for the family. The fundraiser had drawn significant public attention throughout the legal proceedings, generating widespread debate about the purpose and use of the donated funds.

The case remained highly controversial from the beginning, particularly given the tragic death of Metcalf and the substantial support the fundraising effort received online. For many observers, questions surrounding how the money was spent became almost as controversial as the fundraiser itself. As it turns out, public scrutiny tends to increase when large sums of donated money are involved.

With Anthony now beginning his prison sentence and pursuing an appeal, attention is likely to remain focused on both the legal proceedings and the broader questions raised by the fundraising campaign. While the case has generated intense public discussion, supporters of accountability argue that the conviction marks an important step toward justice and closure following a tragedy that deeply affected the community.
