Giuliani Says U.S. Security ‘Deteriorated Terribly’ Under Obama After Refusing to Name Islamic Terrorism

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani sounded the alarm Saturday on Newsmax’s “Saturday Report,” arguing that America’s national security took a major step backward during the Obama administration after officials stopped directly identifying “Islamic terrorism.”

According to Giuliani, the shift in language wasn’t just political correctness — it weakened the country’s ability to confront real threats. Because apparently pretending a problem doesn’t exist is now considered a strategy in Washington.

“Starting with Obama where we decided we’re not going to say Islamic terrorism and we literally put it in the back drawer, we’ve been deteriorating terribly,” Giuliani said while discussing the arrest of an alleged Hezbollah and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps operative accused of plotting attacks in Europe, Canada, and New York.

Giuliani pointed to the years immediately following the September 11 attacks as a time when American counterterrorism efforts were at their strongest. He explained that during that period, law enforcement and intelligence agencies aggressively disrupted threats before they could materialize.

“There was a period after 9/11 where our security was the best in the world,” Giuliani said.

“People were always asking me, ‘Are we safer now since 9/11?’ I said, ‘You have no idea how safe we are,’ because they wouldn’t hear about all the attacks. We were sending them off left and right.”

Giuliani also credited President Donald Trump with restoring strength to America’s national security apparatus during his four years in office, emphasizing that Trump took threats seriously and focused on protecting the country instead of worrying about offending terrorists with accurate terminology.

“Trump bolstered it for four years,” Giuliani said.

At the same time, Giuliani acknowledged that recent law enforcement successes show the United States is regaining ground in the fight against terrorism. The recent arrests and operations, he argued, demonstrate that American agencies are becoming more effective once again.

“It does show how good we are at catching,” he said. “We’ve improved immensely and I don’t know if we’re back, we’re almost back to where we were in the post-9/11 era.”

The message from Giuliani was clear: strong leadership, serious policies, and a willingness to confront threats head-on matter. And as America continues rebuilding its security posture, many are hopeful the country is moving back toward the strength and vigilance that kept Americans safe for years.
