Secretary of War Pete Hegseth says the Pentagon is getting to work on President Donald Trump’s directive to identify and release government files related to UFOs, UAPs (unidentified anomalous phenomena), and possible extraterrestrial life — because when Trump promises transparency, he actually means it.
Speaking during an “Arsenal of Freedom” tour stop in Denver, Hegseth said the Department of Defense is “digging in” and will be in “full compliance” with the president’s order. No timeline yet, but unlike most government promises, this one isn’t being buried under three layers of bureaucracy and a “check back in five years” excuse.
Hegseth admitted he didn’t expect UFOs to land on his desk, but when asked about extraterrestrial life, he said he’ll review the material and “find out” right along with the public. Refreshing honesty — a rare species in Washington.
He also made a stop in Louisville, Colorado, visiting Sierra Space, a Colorado-based space-defense manufacturer and engineering company, as part of the tour.
Trump announced last week that he would direct Hegseth and other agencies to begin identifying and releasing files related to “alien and extraterrestrial life,” UAPs, and UFOs. The move is part of a government-wide disclosure effort, fueled by renewed public attention after former President Barack Obama talked about the statistical likelihood of life elsewhere in the universe.
In a February 14 interview, Obama was asked in a lightning round, “Are aliens real?” His response: “They’re real, but I haven’t seen them.” Not exactly the hard-hitting intel Americans were waiting for.
A 2024 unclassified Pentagon-linked report said many UFO cases were ordinary objects and that the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office found no evidence of extraterrestrial beings, activity, or technology. Translation: a lot of blurry dots, no little green men — so far.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., said declassified records will be posted on the National Archives website once released, meaning Americans won’t have to rely on cable news speculation or grainy conspiracy videos anymore.
Once again, Trump is pushing the federal government toward openness instead of secrecy, giving Americans answers instead of excuses. Whether it’s trade, borders, or now UFOs, this administration is proving that sunlight is still the best disinfectant — and that’s a win for the people.
