Here for It: DOJ Responds After Mamdani Tenant Director Exposed as Property-Seizing Communist

Zohran Mamdani never exactly hid who he was. During both the NYC mayoral primary and the general election, he went out of his way to tell voters exactly what they were getting — from his positions on the Israel–Hamas war and 9/11, to his soft-on-crime ideology, his obsession with “free” stuff for New Yorkers (courtesy of “the rich,” of course), and his race-based approach to housing policy. Democrats usually at least pretend to be subtle. Mamdani skipped that step entirely.

As the campaign unfolded, internet sleuths did what legacy media refused to do and unearthed old tweets and videos that painted an even clearer picture. Perhaps the most revealing moment came from a 2021 DSA convention, where Mamdani openly praised “the end goal of seizing the means of production” and urged fellow Democratic Socialists not to abandon the idea just because it wasn’t polling well. Honesty is refreshing — even when it’s terrifying.

So it shouldn’t shock anyone that the people Mamdani selected to serve in his administration hold radical anti-capitalist, anti-American, antisemitic, and openly racist views that align perfectly with his own. Still, it was striking to see deleted social media posts from Cea Weaver, the newly appointed director of his “Office to Protect Tenants,” resurface this week.

In those posts, Weaver described home ownership as a “weapon of white supremacy.” In a separate resurfaced video, she argued that property should no longer be treated as an “individualized good,” but instead as a “collective good,” hinting that Americans might need to “think differently” about ownership altogether. Translation: what’s yours isn’t really yours anymore.

And back in December 2017, Weaver openly called to “elect more communists.” Fast forward eight years, and New York City did exactly that with the election of Mamdani. Be careful what you tweet — it might turn into public policy.

Anyone hoping the Mamdani administration might back down from this agenda is kidding themselves. Mamdani himself has spoken favorably about seizing property under the banner of what he calls “warm collectivism,” and he insists voters gave him a mandate to do exactly that. Even more telling, his transition team was fully aware of Weaver’s history before appointing her — and hired her anyway.

So when right-wing activists circulated Weaver’s now-deleted posts this week, Mamdani wasn’t blindsided. He was prepared.

“She was vetted,” a Mamdani spokeswoman confirmed. “We were aware of all of these tweets.”

In other words: this wasn’t a mistake. It was the plan.

Now, with the Department of Justice responding accordingly, this fight is headed exactly where it belongs — the courts. And that’s good news. Because when radical ideology collides with the Constitution, the Constitution still matters.

For now, grab the popcorn. This battle is just getting started — and sunshine has a funny way of disinfecting even the most committed collectivists.
