Kash Patel praised federal agents for a significant reduction in crime in Memphis, pointing to the success of coordinated law enforcement efforts across multiple agencies. According to internal remarks, overall crime in the city has dropped by 43%, including a 35% decrease in homicides, a 32% decline in burglaries, and a 38% reduction in sexual assault cases.
The progress was attributed in part to the Memphis Safe Task Force, a joint initiative involving federal, state, and local authorities. Patel emphasized that the results demonstrate what can be achieved when agencies collaborate effectively and maintain a strong on-the-ground presence. He made the remarks after joining Donald Trump and other administration officials to recognize the task force’s work.
Beyond Memphis, Patel highlighted several nationwide enforcement actions led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. In Cincinnati, Operation Box Cutter led to indictments against six Chinese nationals and two China-based pharmaceutical companies accused of supplying fentanyl precursor chemicals intended for illegal distribution in the United States. Authorities allege the operation involved coordination with a Mexican drug cartel.
Patel noted that these indictments followed high-level cooperation efforts with Chinese counterparts during a prior visit to Beijing, which he described as instrumental in disrupting the supply chain of synthetic opioids.
In Kansas City, FBI teams carried out Operation Spring Cleaning, resulting in 101 arrests and the seizure of 141 firearms along with quantities of cocaine, fentanyl, and marijuana. Meanwhile, in Tampa, federal authorities announced indictments related to an alleged explosive device planted at MacDill Air Force Base, with one suspect already in custody and another expected to face charges.
Patel stated that these combined efforts reflect a broader national strategy focused on reducing violent crime, dismantling drug trafficking networks, and strengthening public safety through coordinated enforcement actions.
