Lawyer Tied to Defunct Child 'Transition' Program Hosts Fundraiser for Democrat Talarico After Paxton Crackdown

A top lawyer with deep ties to Texas Children’s Hospital’s now-defunct transgender program for children is reportedly hosting a high-dollar fundraiser this Saturday for Texas Democrat Senate candidate James Talarico.

The event, set for Houston, is hosted by Afsheen Davis, who serves as senior vice president and general counsel for Texas Children’s Hospital. This revelation comes just days after Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton delivered a decisive blow to the hospital, announcing a final settlement that mandates the establishment of what his office describes as the nation’s first-ever “detransition” clinic. And there it is.

The hospital spokesperson issued a familiar, deflecting statement: “As an organization, we respect our team members’ rights to their own opinions and beliefs on political matters, and at the same time those pursuits are personal and do not represent the company or its position.” Apparently, common sense needed a permission slip. The fundraiser is also co-hosted by Josh Davis, Afsheen Davis’ husband, a member of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association executive committee.

The settlement compels Texas Children’s Hospital to pay a staggering $10 million, with approximately $8.6 million earmarked for the state. This resolves claims that the hospital flagrantly billed Texas Medicaid for illegal transgender procedures performed on children, often by deploying false diagnosis codes. Beyond the financial penalty, the hospital is now required to establish a “detransition” clinic by late October 2026. Texas Children’s, predictably, has denied violating the law.

Afsheen Davis and the hospital are also entangled as defendants in a separate, pivotal lawsuit stemming from the hospital’s controversial former gender-transition program. Dr. Eithan Haim, who once worked at Texas Children’s, bravely sued Davis and other hospital officials, alleging that the hospital was not just lying about ending its transgender medical program but was actively continuing attempted transition procedures on children as young as 11.

In a telling display of political targeting, federal prosecutors under the Biden administration accused Dr. Haim of improperly accessing patient records. Dr. Haim pointedly stated that Davis was among those at the hospital who assisted the Biden administration in building a case against him. Funny how that always seems to happen in one direction. Crucially, those charges were summarily dropped shortly after President Trump took office, a clear signal of accountability finally being restored.

A lawsuit filed by Dr. Haim in January further cemented these claims, alleging that Davis and other hospital officials deliberately sought to have him “criminally charged and provided federal authorities the entire basis for the government’s investigation and subsequent indictment of Dr. Haim.”

Democrat James Talarico, locked in a fierce general election race against Republican Senator John Cornyn, has made his past embrace of radical transgender ideology a glaring vulnerability. While Talarico recently attempted to soften his stance by claiming he does not support transgender surgeries on children, his voting record tells a different story: he voted against a vital 2023 law designed to protect minors from irreversible transgender surgeries and cross-sex hormone procedures. Actions, after all, speak louder than carefully crafted campaign statements.

This fundraiser, bankrolled by a lawyer tied to a program exposed for preying on children, exposes the alarming alignment between certain political figures and the radical agenda that seeks to undermine parental rights and endanger minors. Attorney General Paxton’s unwavering commitment to law and order, protecting children, and ensuring accountability stands in stark contrast to the shadowy connections that continue to surface within the Democrat ranks. The people of Texas, and indeed all Americans, deserve leaders who prioritize the well-being of our children over fringe ideologies and political fundraising.
