You know something good is happening when liberals start fuming on Twitter and the media machine cranks out headlines like “disturbing” and “vile grifters.” That’s exactly what we’re seeing now as reports surface that Paramount’s new CEO, David Ellison, is close to finalizing a deal to buy Bari Weiss’ The Free Press for somewhere between $100 and $200 million—and put Weiss in a top role at CBS News. Cue the left-wing panic attack.

Let’s be honest: CBS News has been on life support for years. And suddenly the possibility of a strong, independent voice like Bari Weiss stepping in has the same folks who cheerlead “diversity” and “inclusion” running for their fainting couches. Apparently, “diversity” doesn’t extend to thought. Who knew?

Weiss, who famously left The New York Times in 2020 after the far-left staff made her life miserable, built The Free Press by challenging DEI dogma, gender ideology, and media spin on Israel. Translation: she dared to question the left’s sacred cows. For that, she’s been branded “polarizing.” Because when liberals lose control of the narrative, suddenly you’re a “controversial figure.”
CNN’s Oliver Darcy even called the price tag “absurd” and whined that Weiss would erode CBS’s “credibility.” Right, because that credibility hasn’t already been torched by years of biased reporting. HuffPost, Salon, and The Nation all piled on too, with The Nation’s Jack Mirkinson writing a rant that sounded more like a therapy session than journalism, calling Weiss a “crank and a bigot.” Nothing screams confidence quite like attacking your opponent with kindergarten insults.
Of course, conservatives and critics of the legacy media are welcoming the move. After all, CBS could use a serious reality check—and Weiss has proven she’s not afraid to bring it. Even progressive voices admitted she has a lane, just not “running CBS News.” Translation: she’s too effective, too sharp, and too unwilling to play by their rules.
The meltdown says it all. Liberals know that if Weiss takes the helm at CBS, the monopoly on their narrative gets shattered. And maybe, just maybe, mainstream news finally starts reflecting the views of everyday Americans who are tired of being force-fed the same tired propaganda.
In other words, CBS News might finally have a chance to get back to journalism instead of activism. And that’s a change worth cheering for.
