California Governor Gavin Newsom is having a rough time handling criticism — and it showed in spectacular fashion after podcast host Joe Rogan’s past comments resurfaced. Instead of brushing it off, Newsom went full keyboard warrior, unleashing a Trump-style tirade that felt more like a meltdown than a measured response.
In a post from his press office account, Newsom lashed out at Rogan, calling him “JOE ‘LITTLE GUY’ ROGAN” and accusing him of being “too chicken” to have him on his podcast. He went on to claim Rogan is running a “failing podcast” and insisted he’d “crush him” in a debate. Strong words — though interestingly, all from behind a social media account.
This outburst was triggered by a resurfaced clip in which Rogan didn’t exactly hold back. Speaking candidly, he called Newsom a “f---ing con man,” arguing that the California governor has lost public trust. Rogan pointed to policies like attempting to mandate vaccines for children — which he described as unnecessary — and criticized what he saw as hypocrisy, including being seen in public without a mask while promoting strict guidelines.
Rogan didn’t stop there. He portrayed Newsom as a “narrative-driven politician” and claimed that “nobody believes in the guy” anymore. Not exactly subtle — but then again, Rogan has never been known for sugarcoating things.

The tension didn’t end with old clips. More recently, Rogan called out Newsom again after the governor’s press office mocked a daycare fraud investigation led by Nick Shirley. The post included what appeared to be an AI-generated satirical image, which Rogan highlighted as an example of questionable judgment coming from a government office.
And then came the broader critique. Rogan pointed to California’s ongoing issues — high unemployment, rising homelessness, missing funds, and what he described as the collapse of Hollywood — as evidence of failed leadership. He also revisited criticism of vaccine mandates, doubling down on his view that such policies were unnecessary.
Meanwhile, Newsom’s response? More insults, more bravado, and a public challenge — but no actual debate… yet.
At the end of the day, this back-and-forth says a lot. One side is throwing punches in long-form conversations, the other is firing off social media rants in all caps. Not exactly a fair fight — but definitely entertaining.
If Newsom really wants to prove his point, the invitation is simple: step into the arena. Until then, it looks like it’s all talk — and Americans have seen plenty of that already.
