No Signing Housing Bill, Trump Warns "Dumocrats" Will End Filibuster

President Donald Trump announced Friday that he will not sign a major bipartisan housing bill, using it as leverage to pressure Senate Republicans to eliminate the filibuster and pass the SAVE America Act — his top-priority election integrity legislation.

In a strongly worded Truth Social post, Trump wrote that he is protesting the Senate GOP’s refusal to advance the bill, which would require photo voter ID and proof of citizenship to register and vote in federal elections, while severely restricting mail-in ballots (with exceptions for military, disabled, illness, and travel).

“The Dumocrats will TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER, if and when they ever get the chance to do so, in their very first hour,” Trump said. “And I will no longer be able to call them Dumocrats again! The title of DUMB will revert to the Republicans who allowed this horrible calamity to happen to our Party, and our Nation, itself!”

The housing package, known as the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, passed the Senate 85-5 and the House 358-32 after months of negotiations. It aims to boost home construction, expand manufactured housing, and curb large institutional investors from buying up single-family homes. However, Trump called it “a yawn” compared to the urgency of securing elections ahead of the 2026 midterms.

The SAVE America Act has overwhelming support among Republican voters (polling as high as 97% in some surveys) and is viewed by Trump as essential to preventing noncitizen voting and election fraud. The President has repeatedly warned that failing to pass it would be a serious threat to the GOP’s future.

Because Trump has taken no action on the housing bill and the constitutional 10-day review period expires soon, it is expected to become law automatically without his signature. Still, his message to Senate Republicans was unmistakable: get serious about election security or face the consequences.
