Passenger Praises Pilot’s Final Actions After Deadly Air Canada Crash at LaGuardia

A terrifying scene unfolded at LaGuardia Airport Sunday night when an Air Canada Express flight collided with a fire truck on the runway—but amid the chaos, one passenger says the pilot made a split-second decision that likely saved lives.

Jack Cabot, one of the 72 people onboard, described the landing as anything but routine. According to him, the plane came down hard, stopped abruptly, and within seconds, slammed into the vehicle—triggering what he called “absolute chaos.”

“Everybody was flying everywhere,” Cabot recalled, noting the aircraft began veering side to side as panic set in. Not exactly the kind of landing anyone signs up for when booking a flight.

But in the aftermath, Cabot made one thing clear: the pilot did everything possible.

Looking back, he said the pilot hit the brakes as hard as he could, fully aware of the consequences. In Cabot’s words, it was a decision that may have come at the cost of the pilot’s own life.

That kind of action—quick, decisive, and selfless—is the difference between tragedy and something even worse.

While investigations will ultimately determine what led to the collision, the passenger’s account highlights the critical role of experience and instinct in those final moments. When everything goes wrong, there’s no time for hesitation—only action.

And according to those onboard, that action mattered.

The situation was chaotic, frightening, and tragic—but it also served as a reminder of the professionalism and sacrifice shown by those responsible for keeping others safe, even in the worst possible circumstances.

Because sometimes, in the middle of disaster, the right decision—made in seconds—can save dozens of lives.

And that’s something worth recognizing.
