A California man has been arrested at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, allegedly found with a cache of weapons and body armor just days before President Donald Trump's scheduled visit to the property. The swift action by federal agents and local authorities may have averted a serious incident, underscoring the constant vigilance required to protect America First leaders.
Jeanine John Taele, 38, of Downey, pleaded not guilty to four criminal charges following his Sunday arrest. Authorities had observed Taele reportedly monitoring security planning activities, taking photographs and videos on the golf course grounds.
President Trump arrived in Los Angeles late Tuesday for a Republican National Committee fundraiser, making the timing of Taele's alleged surveillance particularly alarming.
A Los Angeles County judge set Taele's bail at $250,000, imposing strict conditions: he is barred from possessing any weapons, prohibited from the Trump National Golf Club, and forbidden from leaving California while the case is pending. His next court appearance is slated for August 26 for a preliminary hearing setting and bail review.
The investigation began when plainclothes federal agents spotted Taele on the golf course property. Deputies from the Lomita Sheriff's Station were called to the scene around 3:30 p.m. During a pat-down, deputies recovered a 16-round magazine loaded with dangerous hollow-point ammunition from Taele's pants pocket. A subsequent search of his vehicle, parked in the golf course lot, revealed a loaded pistol with a round in the chamber and another loaded magazine, also containing hollow-point ammunition.
Taele was initially arrested on suspicion of carrying a concealed firearm and possessing prohibited ammunition. Prosecutors have since expanded the charges to include receiving a large-capacity magazine, carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle, and possession of a short-barreled rifle or shotgun, painting a clearer picture of his alarming arsenal.
The discovery prompted detectives with the Sheriff's Department's Major Crimes Bureau, assigned to the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force, to obtain a search warrant for Taele's Downey home. There, investigators made even more disturbing discoveries.
Agents recovered an illegally modified AR-platform rifle, a 1911 .45-caliber pistol, an AR-platform upper receiver, professional body armor, high-capacity magazines, bulk pistol and rifle ammunition, two radio signal devices, and multiple notebooks filled with what authorities chillingly described as "concerning statements." This goes far beyond mere firearm possession; it points to premeditated intent and a disturbing readiness for conflict.
Adding to Taele's legal woes, prosecutors also charged him with second-degree robbery in connection with an alleged November 4, 2025, incident that was already under investigation by the El Segundo Police Department prior to his arrest at the golf course.
The ongoing investigation is a joint effort by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force, and the U.S. Secret Service. Officials have indicated that additional charges could be filed as the investigation progresses. While authorities state they have identified no credible threat to the surrounding community, the implications of such an armed individual targeting a property linked to a former President cannot be overstated.
