Scandal in Washington: Illegal Alien Caught Working for State Kids Agency, Exposing Border Failure

The idea that a state agency, especially one tasked with the crucial care of children, would employ an individual in the country illegally is not just alarming – it's an outrage. Yet, this is precisely what has unfolded in Washington State, exposing a glaring vulnerability in our public institutions and underscoring the severe consequences of a border system that many believe is intentionally left open.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has confirmed the arrest of Stanley Robert Kungu Muthee, a Kenyan national, who was not only employed by the Washington Department of Children, Youth & Families (DCYF) but was also residing in the United States unlawfully. Muthee had entered on a tourist visa in 2019 and simply never left, a stark reminder of the widespread visa overstay problem that the current administration seems content to ignore, effectively turning a blind eye to lawbreaking.

..ICE arrested STANLEY ROBERT KUNGU MUTHEE during a traffic stop on Monday because he is a visa overstay. He first flew into the US on 2/6/2019 via a B-2/tourist visa, but never left and remained in the country illegally. Fox is told that during his ICE arrest, he admitted to being employed by WA DCYF employee and was in possession of a WA DCYF ID card.

I reached out to WA DCYF for comment, and they confirmed he's been an employee since 2024.

“This individual has been employed with the Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families since Aug. 16, 2024. The individual provided the appropriate documentation when he was hired, which indicated he was authorized to work. This included a valid United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) number with no expiration date. We have not been notified of a change in his status.” – Nancy Gutierrez, Director of Communications, WA DCYF

DCYF's statement, while confirming Muthee's employment since August 2024, only deepens the concern. The agency claims he provided “appropriate documentation” and a “valid United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) number with no expiration date.” This immediately begs critical questions that demand answers from Washington state officials:

First, how precisely did an individual who entered on a tourist visa in 2019 and demonstrably broke U.S. law by never leaving manage to secure documentation authorizing him to work for a state agency? Was this a catastrophic failure of vetting by DCYF, or a symptom of a broader system being exploited by those who disregard our laws, encouraged by an administration that has shown little interest in true border enforcement?

Second, what sensitive role was Mr. Muthee performing within an agency dedicated to the welfare of Washington's children? What were his qualifications, and why was a state position – one that should rightfully go to an American citizen or legal resident – filled by an individual who had already demonstrated a disrespect for U.S. immigration law?

Third and finally, what accountability will there be for DCYF, and will ICE now conduct a thorough audit of the agency's employment records to identify any other potential illegal aliens on the state payroll? The idea that “appropriate documentation” can somehow shield an illegal alien from the consequences of their actions is a dangerous precedent that directly undermines the rule of law and public trust.

Stanley Robert Kungu Muthee made a conscious choice to overstay his visa, ignoring ample opportunities, including those offered under the America First administration, to self-deport and pursue legal immigration channels. His decision to remain illegally and then obtain employment with a state agency is an affront to every American who plays by the rules and respects our nation's laws. He should be repatriated to Kenya immediately, and if DCYF truly wants him back, they can sponsor his legal return – but only after he has faced the consequences of his initial illegal actions.

This incident serves as a stark warning: lax border policies and a failure to enforce immigration laws do not just impact distant border towns; they permeate our communities and even infiltrate our government institutions, putting our citizens at risk. Americans expect and deserve public servants who uphold the law, starting with their legal presence in this nation. It is long past time for state agencies to prioritize American citizens and legal residents, and for our leaders to secure the border and enforce immigration laws with unwavering resolve, restoring national security and common sense to our immigration system.
