Tyler Boebert, the 21-year-old son of staunch America First advocate and U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO), found himself in serious legal trouble this week, arrested on Monday on grave charges related to the sexual exploitation of a child.
The allegations against Boebert stem from a video reportedly recorded in 2024 involving a 17-year-old, according to an affidavit supporting the arrest warrant. Court filings indicate that the girl's mother alerted authorities after a video showing her daughter and Tyler Boebert allegedly engaged in sexual activity was posted on Instagram. The affidavit, however, does not specify who is believed to have posted the video.
At the time of the alleged incident, Boebert was 18 years old, 11 months older than the victim, who was 17. Authorities noted that the girl turned 18 just three weeks after the footage was purportedly filmed on February 1, 2024.
Tyler Boebert faces three counts of sexual exploitation of a child and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, as detailed in court records.
The Garfield County Sheriff's Office later confirmed that Boebert was released on a $10,000 bond, initiating a legal process that will undoubtedly bring immense scrutiny to the Boebert family.
Rep. Lauren Boebert addressed the difficult situation in a statement Monday, expressing maternal concern: "I love my son. This is not Tyler Boebert's first run-in with the law. He was previously arrested in February 2024 following an investigation into property theft and vehicle trespass. Records indicate that his probation was reopened last September, with a hearing on the deferred sentencing slated for November 16.
Last year, speaking about her son's past struggles, Rep. Boebert acknowledged that he had endured "some very difficult, public challenges for a young man and the subject of attention that he didn't ask for."
