Somali Woman Who Gave Infamous ‘Bananas and Rice’ Speech Arrested for Obstructing ICE

The Somali woman who went viral for her strange “bananas and rice” speech was arrested Wednesday for obstructing federal law enforcement, according to Attorney General Pam Bondi.

Bondi announced on X that she was on the ground with federal agents as they arrested individuals accused of interfering with federal operations. Among those taken into custody was 23-year-old Nasra Ahmed, who became a social media sensation after declaring, “Being Somali isn’t just eating bananas with rice, it’s like a cultural fusion, it’s kind of like the bananas and rice.” Apparently, cultural fusion now includes blocking federal officers.

Ahmed was one of 16 individuals arrested for “assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers or employees,” according to Bondi. The arrests came amid ongoing protests in Minnesota following the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti during federal immigration enforcement operations.

After those incidents, anti-ICE protesters escalated their actions, targeting federal officers and even attacking hotels believed to be housing ICE agents. Instead of peaceful protest, the movement chose intimidation and obstruction — a bold strategy for people claiming to support “justice.”

Bondi made clear that the administration will not tolerate interference with federal law enforcement. The message from Washington is simple: protesting is one thing, but obstructing federal officers is another, and it comes with consequences.

With arrests now underway and federal agents backed by the Justice Department, the Trump administration is reinforcing a familiar principle — the law applies to everyone, viral speeches included. And as enforcement continues, Americans can expect order to take priority over chaos, and accountability to replace excuses.
