Todd Blanche Takes the Helm at DOJ, Moves Fast to Advance Trump’s Law-and-Order Agenda

Change came quickly at the Department of Justice, and Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche wasted no time making it clear where things are headed. On his very first official day, Blanche rolled out a series of memos signaling a renewed focus on public safety and President Donald Trump’s commitment to delivering exactly that—something Americans have been asking for, loudly, for quite a while.

In one memo to staff, Blanche didn’t overcomplicate things: the mission remains the same—keep America safe. He reinforced that President Trump’s promise of a safer nation isn’t just campaign rhetoric; it’s policy in motion.

At the same time, Blanche took a moment to recognize former Attorney General Pam Bondi, thanking her for her “friendship, service, and selfless dedication.” And to be clear, even President Trump himself praised Bondi as a “Great American Patriot,” highlighting her role in overseeing a major drop in crime—including murder rates reaching their lowest levels in over a century. Not exactly the résumé of someone who failed, despite what critics might try to spin.

Still, Washington being Washington, transitions don’t happen without a little mystery. Blanche himself acknowledged the unusual nature of the change, noting that only President Trump truly knows the reasoning behind the shift. That said, reports suggest frustration over the pace of pursuing certain legal actions may have played a role—because apparently moving too slowly in Washington is still a thing.

Blanche is also reshaping the leadership team. He announced that Trent McCotter will step in as principal associate deputy attorney general, while Colin McDonald will continue juggling his role in the department’s fraud division alongside added responsibilities. Translation: people aligned with the mission are being put in positions to actually execute it.

He also confirmed he’ll officially move into the attorney general’s office on Monday—because nothing says “I’m in charge” like taking the office and getting to work.

The message here is pretty straightforward: the Department of Justice is being recalibrated to align more closely with the administration’s priorities—law, order, and accountability. And judging by the speed of these changes, this isn’t going to be a slow, bureaucratic shuffle.

For supporters of a tougher, more decisive justice system, this is exactly the kind of leadership shift they’ve been waiting for. And if Blanche’s first day is any indication, the DOJ is gearing up to move a lot faster—and a lot more decisively—in the days ahead.
